Wise Women’s Words
On thoughts and writing
We begin with thoughts
impressed upon our minds from sensory input;
from what we see, hear, smell, taste and feel,
impressed upon us from random
- or forced - exposure,
or from things to which we choose to attend.
Certain thoughts push forward,
demanding center stage,
for personal practical or emotional reasons.
These thoughts guide our actions,
we write the words that capture them and make them visible
and we are responsible for our words.
As we continue this practice our ‘voice’ or style emerges.
We develop the security to trust
our own thoughts; both written and spoken.
We are empowered to write - and talk - through to the truth.
A short story is what you see when you look out the window. - Mavis Gallant

Pink
by Bev Bullis
As I stroll through the isles of brilliantly colored and texture diverse fabrics and imagine the endless possibilities; I am remind of the wonderful possibilities we have to construct our character through obedience to natural laws and correct principles creating a most beautiful fabric with which to build our lives.
I've been involved with sewing clothing out of fabric since was a child. My mother mentored me, then school teachers and peers, now I am a mentor. There is such satisfaction in starting with a length of fabric and creating something comely and useful.
After the material has been cut from a patter and the guides marked, the garment is ready for assembly. The integrity and strength of the seams are of the utmost importance to insure that they will not unravel when washed and worn. One way to secure the seam is to 'pink' it. To pink means a saw edge is cut into the seam allowance leaving some fabric in place while some is removed.
Let's consider the usefulness of this procedure in our lives. In oder for our lives to have the strength of the pink we must carefully decide which of our characteristics we will leave in place and which need to be removed. Strength and integrity of character comes from cutting away remnants of selfishness and keeping the fabric of selflessness.
Just as the pinked edge has positive and negative space side by side so too the character building and character destroying facets of the decisions we make are closely related opposites. As traits of honesty, faithfulness and kindness are woven, dishonesty, unfaithfulness and unkindness must be clipped away. Self mastery comes through and as a result of the pink we apply to our lives.
In applying the pink to our lives we can have a happy, wholesome life that will wear off on others as we love and serve them. Think PINK.
Beautifully articulated; carefully crafted. Your 'voice' is strong. Ready for audience.
